“Missa do Galo” (by Machado de Assis) is the story of a young man and his encounter, late on Christmas Eve, with an older woman who may (or may not) be seducing him. This masterpiece of the Brazilian conto was written by Machado de Assis, who is known all over Brazil for his brilliant story-telling.

The file is almost 18 minutes of the book “Missa do Galo e Outros Contos, Vol 1.“– the first conto, “Missa do Galo.” The story is told in Portuguese.

Contos, Vol. 1" (published by Atlantico Books, 2009). With the book, you can read along as you listen, and learn new vocabulary and
pronunciation.

Sumaira's voice is beautiful and easy to understand, and she reads at a good pace. It can be a little challenging to
keep up with her, but that's why it's great to pause or repeat the MP3!
